This is the official website of Irvine Welsh, an acclaimed and often controversial writer of novels, stories and stage and screenplays. Welsh comes from Edinburgh, Scotland, and lives with his American wife Elizabeth, mainly in Dublin, Ireland and Miami Beach, Florida. He travels a great deal and his hobbies include socialising and sporting activities.

Irvine writes: "The site is in a state of ongoing development. At the moment there is no interactive element, such as a forum, but that might happen in the future. I can't promise to keep this site up to date, but i'll try, with a little help from my friends. I would like to apologise to everybody who sent me letters, scripts, underwear, bombs etc over the years. I used to able to respond to each item I got but it became so much I just never got the time to do anything else. Also, as I'm moving around a lot, it can take months, or even years for the stuff to get to me, if it does at all. So I decided, perhaps wrongly, that I'd rather not respond at all than just send a trite identical card to everybody saying 'thanks so much...blah blah blah.' I really do appreciate it though, and I still have a big bag of stuff in my attic. Someday, when I stop writing, I might surprise everybody by answering all the mail personally. Or I might even stop being such a tight-wad and employ somebody to do it like other writer's do with 'personal' responses."
